HASTINGS & ROTHER MUSIC CENTRE'S COLLABORATION WITH HASTINGS FAT TUESDAY SNOWBALLS

20 Jan 2023

Hastings & Rother Music Centre's collaboration with Hastings Fat Tuesday snowballs

Create Music’s collaboration with Hastings Fat Tuesday is in full swing preparing for the Umbrella Parade. Taking place on Sun 19 Feb the Umbrella Parade is part of the Hastings Fat Tuesday Festival which runs from Fri 17 – Tue 21 Feb, showcasing internationally acclaimed and local artists in a five-day town wide celebration.

Students from Hastings & Rother Music Centre have come together to create Hastings Youth Second Line Band, with 10 students now taking part. Playing New Orleans style jazz classics, they will form part of the Umbrella Parade in an explosion of colour, music, and fun as decorative umbrellas process along the seafront.

Local musician Robbie Robson, Fat Tuesday’s facilitator for Hastings Youth Second Line Band, said: “I am delighted with how the band is growing in numbers and musicianship”. Robbie works alongside Create Music’s Bjorn McAteer-Dahlberg, professional Saxophone player and leader of Hastings & Rother Music Centre’s Jazz & Funk Band, and George Simmonds, professional Trombone player and Brass teacher for Create Music in Hastings & Rother area schools.
