Instruments & Equipment
Will instruments be available in the sessions? Create Music will supply a complete band setup including high quality instruments for use in the lessons. These include an Electric Drum-kit, Electric Guitars, Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Amps and Microphones.
Can I hire an instrument? Unfortunately, Create Music cannot hire out Drum kits, Keyboards or Electric Guitars/ Bass Guitars.
Can I hire tech equipment? iPads/computers will be available for the Beats sessions, but cannot be borrowed or taken home. Students will be supplied with their own username and password for the online recording studio that the can continue to access from home on any device/tablet/computer.
What if my child wants to change instruments? Our band leader is there to teach and help pupils discover the joy of playing an instrument. It might be that after a few sessions a pupil decides the instrument they have chosen isn't right for them. In this case the pupil will work together with the rest of the band and the band leader to facilitate a change in role. For pupils who are undecided on an instrument it is recommended they learn at least one song before trying a new instrument as each instrument comes with its own inital learning challenges.
About the Lessons
How do lessons work? What should my child expect from lessons?
Create: Beats - Students will learn the basics of an online recording studio (DAW). This begins with programming drum beats in different genres (Hip-hop/Dance/Rock etc) Each week pupils will learn a new skill such as writing in a bass-line, chords/harmony/catchy melodies and how to mix and polish the song. By the end of the 6 sessions, students will have created their very own track ready to release! As the sessions continue, students will experience the characteristics of different styles of music, more advanced techniques such as sampling and branch off into different areas of electronic music creation - including music for TV/Film/Video game
Create: Rocks - Each week pupils will learn part of a song on their chosen instrument that teaches them technique, understanding of music and groove. As the weeks progress pupils will learn to transition between parts and apply things such as dynamics and arrangement choices to sculpt the song into something original. After a few weeks the band will have a complete song that they can play from start to finish together and be ready to hit the stage (should they wish to!) Each session provides a focus on not only each instruments individual techniques but the cumulative effect of these instruments all playing together in a band.
Will lessons continue next year? Is this offered at my child's school? Initially we are trialling our exciting new lesson type in a limited number of schools for 6 weeks, with the aim to expand our offering next academic year to more students and schools.
