POWERING UP AN INCLUSIVE MUSIC CURRICULUM

Create Music was proud to partner with West Sussex Music for secondary music conference ‘Powering Up an Inclusive Music Curriculum’. The conference was hosted by the University of Sussex on Thu 29 Jun 2023 and featured keynote addresses from Christopher Stevens, Ofsted, and Emily Crowhurst, School21.

Keynotes and workshops focused on curriculum, inclusion, the Department for Education’s new National Plan for Music Education and achieving greater collective impact through partnership working. Music exam boards were also in attendance as exhibitors for drop-in sessions with teachers.

Delegates were able to chooseworkshops on offer from vocalist Randolph Matthews; James Redwood and Emma Collins, inclusive ensemble leaders from Create Music; Cecelia Wickham-Anderson from Black Voices;Max Wheeler, Producer, DJ and Educator from Charanga; Emily Crowhurst, Head of 4-18 Music & Performing Arts at School21; and Adrian Reeve, Head of Music at Patcham High School.

Hosting 63 delegates from across Sussex and beyond, it was a day of coming together and inspiration with one delegate saying: 

‘Thank you, this was a fantastic day and has re-invigorated me for continued planning and improvement of our curriculum’.
