Requirements for each group:
Big Band
Please prepare to give a fluent performance of your own choice of two contrasting pieces from the grade 6 or above syllabus and length up to 5 minutes. You will be asked to introduce the pieces, including the title and composer. There are no scale requirements, but please prepare for a short piece of sight reading during the audition.
The audition will last for approximately 10 minutes.
Brighton & East Sussex Youth Orchestra
Please prepare to give a fluent performance of your choice of two contrasting pieces of appropriate difficulty (grade 6 or above). You will be asked to introduce the pieces, including the title and composer. Please also prepare for a short piece of orchestral sight reading.
The audition will last for approximately 10 minutes.
Create Music String Ensemble
Please prepare to give a fluent performance of your choice of two contrasting pieces of appropriate difficulty (grade 7 or above). You will be asked to introduce the pieces, including the title and composer. Please prepare two scales (grade 7 or above) of your choosing, please also prepare for sight reading.
The audition will last for approximately 10 minutes.
Seating Auditions
Seating auditions are for those already in an orchestra who would like to progress in the section or for violinists who would like to be considered for the role of orchestra leader.
Please prepare two pieces that show you at your best (no accompanist) and note that you will be given a short piece of sight reading during your audition.
