On the Day

Course Times

Courses will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm. End of course performances take place either at 3.30pm on the final day or for some courses there is an early evening performance – please see notes for specific courses. There is no entrance fee for informal performances that take place at 3.30pm. Further information will also be included in the confirmation pack which applicants will receive approximately two weeks prior to the start of the course.

Performances

Performing is an important part of being a musician (and it’s great fun too!) so all of our Summer Schools build towards a celebration performance for family and friends. Most courses end with an informal sharing at 3.45pm on the last day of the course. On that day, students will remain in their classroom to prepare for the performance before parents are admitted. Four courses have longer performances which will take place later in the evening and details of these are given below.

Audience members attending the evening concerts listed below will need to purchase a ticket in advance or on the night from the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts box office.

Courses 7 and 8: Wind Band Workshop and String Workshop

Refreshements

Students should bring with them enough packed lunch, snacks and drinks for the day, on each day of the course. Drinking water will also be available at all venues.

Leaving the Venue

Pupils (of any age) will not be allowed to leave course venues during the day and we expect that they will be met from their course by a responsible person. If your child is to leave unaccompanied at the end of the course please confirm this in writing and give this to a Summer School supervisor on the day of the course. Pupils will only be allowed to leave course venues during the day if a letter has been received in advance from their parent/carer. Further details will be sent approximately two weeks before the course begins.

Attendance

It is helpful for the ensemble and course leader if pupils can attend for the duration of the course, including the performance.

However please check the dates of any school trips, sports days or Year 6 induction sessions before applying and let us know if you are unable to attend the course in full – please note that full fees will still be due.

If a student needs to leave a course early on any day we will require a letter from their parent/carer to that effect.

First Aid

A first aid appointed person will be in attendance at each venue. However please include details of any medical conditions when applying. We cannot guarantee that our appointed person will be trained to take responsibility for all medical conditions.

Special Educational Needs/Disability
