London Symphony Orchestra KS3 CPD

A free, practical CPD session led by the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), designed to help KS3 teachers develop confidence in vocal work—both for themselves and for their students.

This interactive workshop introduces key vocal techniques, creative approaches, and rehearsal strategies that you can take straight back into the classroom. Whether you lead singing regularly or are looking to build confidence with vocal work, this session provides accessible, engaging tools to support teenage singers.

THE SESSION WILL COVER:

  • An introduction to vocal anatomy
Explore how the voice works and learn to navigate different vocal registers and tone qualities.
  • Physical and vocal warm‑ups
Understand why warming up matters, discuss the physical implications of singing, and try out engaging warm‑up ideas tailored to teenagers.
  • Short improvisation workshop
Experience a playful, low‑pressure improvisation activity—making noise just for fun and building vocal confidence.
  • Structuring your rehearsal
Learn how to shape rehearsals using detail work, skill‑building, and musical knowledge to focus and deepen repertoire learning.
  • Using your voice later in life
Consider the lifelong benefits of vocal skills, including public speaking, confidence, leadership, empathy, and active listening.

FACILITATOR: MIDGE PARRY

This session is led by Midge Parry. Imogen is a singer and recording artist with experience in classical, jazz, pop and contemporary genres. She performed with the Grammy Award-winning vocal group The Swingles for 5 years, touring internationally to prestigious venues worldwide, including a performance at the BBC Proms in 2024. As a session singer Imogen has contributed to over 200 films, TV shows, video games, and commercials. As a backing vocalist she has sung with Sam Smith for BBC Live Lounge and Ellie Goulding at the Royal Albert Hall, and Jacob Collier. In December 2024 she was a featured vocalist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in their Holiday Pops concert series. Her voice can be heard on recent film soundtracks including ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ and ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’. Imogen conducted for the LSO Discovery Choirs last year, and regularly leads workshops and coaching sessions for vocal groups and individuals.
