If you currently receive a Create Music bursary, of any level, you will be automatically awarded a 25% bursary on course fees. There is no need to reapply, just check the tick box stating you are a bursary recipient when signing up.

Bursaries are also available for Children and Young People who do not learn with Create Music. To be eligible the student needs to be attending a Brighton & Hove or East Sussex state school, in full-time primary, secondary or further education (usually Year 13 or below) and from  a family whose household income is under £25,500 before tax and receive one of the following:

  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income based Employment Support Allowance
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Pension Credit

How to Apply for a Bursary

Please add the Young Musician’s Bursary Application to your basket when applying for your course(s).

Applications will only be accepted if accompanied by evidence of income/ benefits/ supporting statements. This can include scans or photographs of letters and statements from HMRC/DWP detailing the benefit award.

TAX CREDITS

If you wish to apply for a bursary and are in receipt of Tax Credits, you need to attach the following pages from your  2024-25 Tax Credit Award to your application:

  • The front cover
  • The page which gives details of your household earned income
  • Part 2 which shows how your Working Tax Credit is calculated if you receive it.

UNIVERSAL CREDIT

If you are receiving Universal Credit, please submit all pages of your 3 most recent monthly statements and we will be able to let you know if you are eligible to receive a subsidy.

We are unable to refund retrospectively if you do not apply for a bursary at the time you apply for the course.  Please remember to enclose your documents as we will need them in order to process your application.

Invoicing and Payment

Invoicing

Once we have enough students signed up for each course, we will issue your invoice which must be paid in full before the first day of the course.  Failure to pay may result in your child not being able to attend the selected course. Please note that further information will be sent approximately two weeks before the course begins.

Refunds

Even if your child does not attend every day of a two or three day course, the full fee is due as that place has been reserved.

If you cancel your course at least 14 days before the first day of the course, a refund of 50% will be given. Refunds for late cancellations due to exceptional circumstances may be considered but will be discretionary.

Performances

Performing is an important part of being a musician (and it’s great fun too!) so all of our Music Summer School courses build towards a celebration performance for family and friends.

Informal Performances

Most courses end with a free informal sharing at 3.45pm on the last day of the course. On that day, students will remain in their classroom to prepare for the performance before parents are admitted.  Two ensembles - SS44 Violin & Cello Workshop and SS40 Wind Band Workshop at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) - will have a longer 30-minute informal performance in the Auditorium on Friday 4 July 2025.

Concert

Three ensembles will play a concert on the last day of the ACCA residency, details below:

Audience members attending the evening concert will need to purchase a ticket in advance or on the night from the ACCA box office.
