Updated 10 January 2022
Please see below for updated information about plans for continuing your child’s music lessons and activities in response to the latest government guidance.
The latest Department for Education guidance (9th December 2021) reflects the introduction of ‘Plan B’ but imposes no new restrictions on musical activity for children. This means that there are no restrictions on singing or playing blown instruments, either in schools or in out-of-school settings. The guidance reaffirms the wearing of face coverings for secondary children and adults (including visitors) in corridors and communal areas and updates provisions for supporting Track and Trace.
Instrumental/Vocal Lessons
We are working closely with schools and face-to-face teaching has been resumed in the majority of schools. We are committed to the ongoing support of all learners and as such we will be providing online tuition until face-to-face lessons can resume in all settings. Your child’s teacher will be in touch with you directly to confirm arrangements for lessons.
We have created a range of resources to support learning online including a video guide to setting up lessons on Zoom and a webinar which gives an introduction to online lessons. These resources can be found here, in our Online Learning playlist.
Further information about online learning including our Safeguarding Policy and Online Lessons Agreement can also be found on our website.
Music Centres
Following a successful series of short courses in the summer term, face-to-face Music Centre activities resumed in September 2021. Activities are taking place regularly at our Music Centres in Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes and Wealden. Our Virtual Music Centre continues to offer courses that enhance our out of school provision. Courses currently being offered online are Intermediate Theory, Grade V Theory, Jazz and Funk and Rock and Pop.
For more information about Music Centre activities and how to apply please see our Music Groups page.
New Learners
In addition to recommencing lessons for all our existing pupils, we are keen to welcome new learners. Please see our Instruments page to see what we have to offer. Adults can also apply for individual instrumental lessons online and streamed, self-paced courses for ukulele, guitar and drum kit are available for all.
What other support is available?
