Welcome to our new schools newsletter where we will share information and news from Create Music, the Music Hub and the wider music education sector.

We are developing this newsletter in response to conversations with colleagues and plan to send a concise email update to schools on a regular basis. We appreciate how busy you are so will only share useful, engaging and relevant information. We hope this way of communicating works for you and we’d appreciate any feedback.

SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES

To help support access to music education this Spring, we have extended the financial help available by:

  • Freezing termly fees for lessons, Music Centre and Summer School for another year.
  • Introducing free instrument hire to all bursary pupils.
  • Offering free instrument hire for all new Brass and Woodwind students (subject to availability)

PRIMARY MUSIC EDUCATION NETWORK MEETINGS

For primary and special school music teachers 

EAST SUSSEX: Wednesday 22 February | 2-4pm | Polegate School 
BRIGHTON & HOVE: Wednesday 8 March | 2-4pm | Sound Rooms, Lewes Road 

This sessions will include an interactive body percussion workshop led by Ollie Tunmer from Beat Goes On, and updates on the new National Plan for Music Education, development of singing and inclusive curriculum. Free to attend, but please register in advance.

SINGING SURVEY

HAVE YOUR SAY BY 24 FEBRUARY
Last term, we contacted all schools in the region to gain a more accurate picture of their singing activity. We know that singing has been really affected by the pandemic and are keen to find more ways to work together to support the development of singing.

Thank you to colleagues who have already completed the survey. If you haven’t, we would be incredibly grateful if you could take a few minutes to share your thoughts. We will use your responses to help shape vocal support and events for the coming year.

'MR BUBBLES 2'

Following the positive response to Mr Bubbles in Summer 2021, we are excited to announce that renowned composer and music educator Sue Nicholls is developing a new musical project for Key Stage 1 classes for this Summer 2023! Further details will follow after half term.

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION STRATEGY 

Following development and consultation with stakeholders, we have now published our EDI strategy on the Create Music website. The short summary sets out our intentions and aims moving forwards. It is a live document and will continue to develop over time to ensure it remains relevant and meets changing needs.

JOIN OUR BOARD

We are looking to appoint new members to the Create Music Board, assisting us to realise our goals, continue to support young people in the South East and helping us shape the future of music. We are also keen to increase representation so that the board better reflects the diversity of our learners and wider community.
