Trumpet (+18 yrs)

Virtually every big band and orchestra has trumpet players, who often provide the most exciting highlights in a piece of music. You can embark on a journey with this very special instrument that opens a world of opportunities for its players.

Course overview

Likely the most well-known member of the brass family, the trumpet’s beautiful sound is created by vibrating or ‘buzzing’ your lips which in turn vibrates the air inside the instrument. Trumpets can be heard in all genres of music, from pop to jazz to classical, making it a hugely versatile instrument.

Pupils will learn lip ‘buzzing’ techniques and how the various valves and tubes create different notes and pitch. Once you’ve grasped these trumpet-playing skills, you will begin exploring well-known tunes, like When the Saints Go Marching In.
